Books Read 2007 (part 1)

Inspired by Toni, I will post about books read periodically. In this and the next couple of posts, I'll briefly review the dozen or so books I can recall yeading this past year.

First up is Illium, by Dan Simmons and it's sequal, Olympos. These are fat, opratic blow-your-mind science fiction adventures that have a little bit of everything in them. Battles, blood, romance, sex, technology, and all levels of literary allusions. Homer, Shakespeare, and Proust are the most obvious, but there's quite a bit of Nabokov and others as well. And did I mention that they're just plain fun?
