Access To Books

This is a great story from the Los Angeles Wave about a nonprofit, Access Books, that provides books to underfunded school libraries. It saddens me that such an organization is necessary, but happy someone is taking the initiative. The woman who started it, Rebecca Constantino, knows what she's talking about:

“We really are putting everything backwards, we are spending all this money to test kids when we should spend all our money giving them books and making them literate,” she said. “But we spend all our money on testing, they don’t do well [and] its because we’re not investing in what makes them smart, what makes them good at taking test, and what makes them academically successful.”
